Offshore Maintenance Industrial Report
Industrial maintenance is crucial to ensuring the efficiency and longevity of equipment, avoiding unexpected downtime that can cause damage. Reporting problems early is essential because it allows for identifying failures before they become critical. This not only ensures worker safety but also reduces operating costs and increases productivity.
Furthermore, preventive maintenance practices contribute to a more reliable work environment and optimize the use of available resources, fostering a culture of vigilance and communication regarding machinery conditions, ensuring sustainable and continuous operations.




DEFINING THE SCOPE
At a start-of-shift meeting with a group of offshore operators, there were numerous complaints about the operating conditions of the machinery, as well as the difficulty in reporting problems in advance.
After this meeting, the project manager and the process engineer were asked to find a way to optimize the reports that were previously submitted manually and printed, enabling the digitalization of the recording process and sending them to the onshore support base.

UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEM AND EXPLORATING SOLUTIONS


Sending reports from offshore units to the onshore operations base faced several challenges that impacted process efficiency. One of the main challenges is real-time communication, often affected by adverse weather conditions and technological limitations. These obstacles can result in significant delays in transmitting crucial information. Furthermore, managing data from multiple units can become complex, making accurate analysis and tracking of performance metrics difficult.
To mitigate these issues, the company decided not only to invest in more robust reporting technologies but also to integrate processes that promote more agile communication. Reducing equipment maintenance costs is also essential, as inefficient reporting can lead to unexpected downtime and high operating costs, impacting business profitability.
For this reason, it was decided to create a Design Concept that could be defended to the client's management team, creating an MVP and developing it into a reference product for all offshore operations units.

The first step was to assess the profile and average age of operators. Then, we determined which data was most relevant to present for team monitoring purposes at the unit or for the onshore support team.
With product scaling in mind, we began by designing the product flow. Screen sketches were then created to generate ideas and communicate with the user.


Looking for the best interaction
Creating an interface that communicates effectively with people of diverse cultures and ages is a complex but essential challenge. It's crucial to consider aspects such as symbols and typography, ensuring that the design is accessible to different age groups, including those with visual impairments. Visual elements should be clear and intuitive, with information organized so that the important information stands out without causing ambiguity. It's also important to test the product to gather feedback so we can improve communication and the effectiveness of the design. It's an exercise in empathy that seeks to break down barriers and foster meaningful connections.

The sponsors expressed great satisfaction with the design, highlighting its innovative aesthetic and intuitive functionality. The widespread user acceptance reflects the success of the proposal, demonstrating that the product meets not only visual expectations but also the practical needs of the target audience. This positive reception strengthens confidence in the delivery of results and opens new opportunities for future collaboration and improvements. The enthusiastic user feedback ensures that the approach adopted was effective, creating a strong sense of community around the project.
